L&R Distributors is in search of a talented on-site Senior Graphic Designer with previous experience overseeing creatives while developing art for retail packaging for health and beauty products. The ideal candidate is passionate about packaging design, has industry experience, and can hit the ground running in a fast-paced environment. This is an in-house employee position. Your portfolio and resume are required, showcasing packaging design skills and demonstrating leadership experience. 

The ideal Senior Graphic Designer will bring a mix of artistic, marketing, and business expertise to the position, promoting our company and that of our valued clients. We are looking for an experienced Senior Graphic Designer with packaging design experience who can inspire and be inspired by others to take our creative efforts to the next level. The ideal candidate will have a natural eye for design and a passion for delivering dynamic ideas that connect with any audience. 

Salary: Up to $90,000
Hybrid: 4 days in the office (Encinitas, CA), 1 day remote

OBJECTIVES: 

  • This position requires management skills, creativity and production capabilities 

  • Uphold and establish art department standards for production, productivity, quality, and client service 

  • Ensure budgets and deadlines are complete, accurate and followed as well as assist in developing and maintaining schedules for projects 

  • Ensure team adheres to current processes, identifies opportunities for improvement, and proposes and creates processes and tools to support design operations 

  • Attend and/or lead meetings facilitated by the project manager and sales team to understand the goals and objectives throughout the stages of each project, while creating designs, presentations, and mock-ups aligning team priorities with business objectives 

  • Develop presentation approaches, styles, and techniques for the team 

  • Analyze market trends, consumer needs, and the competitor landscape, and track campaign performance 

  • Demonstrates flexibility and is able to excel in ambiguous situations 

  • Guide the design team to reduce errors, create efficiencies and inspire innovation 
     

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Maintain and conceptualize campaign vision, harnessing graphics, copy, and marketing materials 

  • Develop creative briefs based on ideas from brainstorming sessions, with direction, schedules, and deliverables for the creative team 

  • Delegate projects to in-house designers and oversee all presentations 

  • Maintain all design project timelines, determine priorities, and assess time allotted to each project 

  • Concepting new artwork designs based on given direction with quick deadlines 

  • Creating detailed dielines from scratch for new packaging 

  • Creating necessary digital and physical mock-ups, and presentations for buyers 

  • Preparing press-ready files, critical review of color proofs, tracking project status and timelines 

  • Ensure all designs meet regulatory, FDA, and other required standards.  

  • Review all content and copy, ensure proper layout and color, and approve proofs as well as attend press checks, when required 

  • Organizing & maintaining the art server
     

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • 5 or more years of professional experience in graphic design

  • Must have prior CPG packaging (specifically for Health, Beauty or Wellness) experience and have worked on packaging from initial ideation to final production 

  • Must have strong knowledge of printing techniques and have a well-rounded understanding of proofing and printing processes 

  • Strong creative vision with attention to business objectives 

  • Ability to thrive in a complex, fast-paced environment which is adaptable to change and can balance multiple activities at once while making appropriate progress against them all 
     

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Excellent skills with Adobe CC Suite, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign 

  • Experienced with MS Office Suite 

  • Experience in packaging design and CPG 

  • Strong creative vision with attention to business objectives 

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and correctly prioritize multiple projects for themselves and others
